About Roman Forest
Living in Roman Forest
Roman Forest is one of the few incorporated cities in the New Caney area. It is a Type A general-law municipality in Montgomery County governed by a mayor and five council members, and the 2020 census counted 1,781 residents. Mail still carries a New Caney address, since the city does not have its own post office, but residents enjoy the hometown feel of a small city with its own police department and municipal court. Fire and emergency service comes through Montgomery County Emergency Service District No. 7.
The streets tell you right away where the name came from. Addresses on Constantine, Neros Palace, Parthenon Place, Scribe and Roman Forest Boulevard give the neighborhood a personality all its own, and tall pines and hardwoods shade many of the lots. Roman Forest Boulevard also serves as the main entrance road for the neighboring Tavola master-planned community, so residents are close to newer amenities and shopping without giving up their quieter streets.
Students in Roman Forest attend New Caney ISD. The city is zoned to Dogwood Elementary, which opened in 2017 on the site of the former Aikin Elementary, along with Keefer Crossing Middle School and New Caney High School. As always, confirm assignments for the specific address, since districts adjust zones as they grow.
Housing here is a mix of established homes on wooded lots, which appeals to buyers looking for character and mature trees rather than a brand-new subdivision. It is also a natural fit for buyers who want city services and local government close at hand while staying a short drive from Highway 59, the Grand Parkway and Kingwood. Because homes here vary in age, size and lot, we help buyers compare condition carefully, plan inspections for roofs, foundations and systems, and look at any city permits for past work. Buyers who appreciate a small-city setting often find Roman Forest offers a good balance of privacy, services and access.
Roman Forest sits in the heart of the New Caney area, a community that dates back to the 1860s, when the Presswood family settled and raised cattle on the open range. The area later went by Caney Station before taking the name New Caney with its 1882 post office. Today the R. B. Tullis Branch Library on Highway 59 and the shops along the freeway are just minutes from Roman Forest’s quiet streets.
