About The Woodlands & Conroe

The Woodlands is a master-planned community about 30 miles north of downtown Houston, founded in 1974 by George P. Mitchell. It is organized into villages, beginning with Grogan’s Mill and growing to include Panther Creek, Cochran’s Crossing, Indian Springs, Alden Bridge, Sterling Ridge and Creekside Park. Each village has its own shopping center, parks, pools and pathways under a canopy of pines.

At the center is The Woodlands Waterway and Town Center, with shopping, dining, offices and the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion. For luxury buyers, Carlton Woods is a gated enclave with golf courses designed by Jack Nicklaus and Tom Fazio. Most of The Woodlands is in Conroe ISD, while Creekside Park on the Harris County side is in Tomball ISD.
