About Oakhurst at Kingwood

Living in Oakhurst at Kingwood

Oakhurst at Kingwood is a 700-acre planned community in Porter, just north of Kingwood in Montgomery County. It is bordered by the San Jacinto River on the west, Northpark Drive on the south and Highway 59 and I-69 on the east. That location gives residents a quick route to Kingwood’s shopping and medical centers, Deerbrook Mall, Valley Ranch Town Center, Bush Intercontinental Airport and downtown Houston. For many families it offers a bit of both sides of the county line: a Kingwood-area address and lifestyle, with a Porter mailing address and New Caney ISD schools.

The land has an interesting history. It was first planned as a community called Bentwood in 1993. In 2002 Friendswood Development Company, the developer that created Kingwood, acquired the property and rebranded it as Oakhurst at Kingwood. Builders including Village Builders and Highland Homes have built here over the years, so buyers will find a range of floor plans, from single-story brick homes on golf course lots to larger two-story designs. The broader Porter area has its own long story, too, from the cattle ranchers who settled east Montgomery County in the 1860s to sawmill operator James Porter, whose name the community still carries.

Golf is at the center of the community. Oakhurst Golf Club is a public 18-hole course of about 7,000 yards, and many homes back up to the fairways or sit a short cart ride away. If you are not a golfer, there is still plenty to enjoy. A central recreation center offers a competition-size swimming pool, a splash pad, covered pavilions and a clubhouse, and the community has around 15 parks and playgrounds tied together by more than 15 miles of paved greenbelt trails. HOA amenity lists also include basketball courts and picnic areas. The Oakhurst Community Association is a mandatory HOA that maintains the parks, pools, trails and green spaces and enforces deed restrictions, which helps the community keep its well-kept look. Golfers appreciate having a public course inside the community, and non-golfers enjoy the open views and green space the course provides. Families often plan their days around the trails, which make it easy to walk or bike to a park or to the recreation center without crossing a major road.

Oakhurst is in New Caney ISD, with Oakhurst Elementary inside the community and Woodridge Forest Middle School nearby. High school assignments have shifted as New Caney ISD added campuses, and recent listings in Oakhurst have shown both Porter High School and West Fork High School, so we confirm every campus by address before you buy. Porter has been part of New Caney ISD since 1965, and the district continues to grow with the area. Kingwood’s schools, shops and medical facilities are close by as well, which gives Oakhurst families plenty of choices for activities, healthcare and dining.

Buying here comes down to matching the right home to how you live. Some buyers want a fairway view and a patio facing the course, others want a quiet street close to the trails or a short walk to the pool, and others want the newest construction they can find. We help you weigh lot location, age of the home, roof and HVAC condition, and HOA rules, and we review association documents, dues and any utility district details with every buyer. Because Oakhurst borders the San Jacinto River, we also review flood zone maps, elevation information where available and seller disclosures for every home we show. Many homes sit well away from the river, and good information helps you compare them with confidence. We also look at how each home sits within the community, whether it backs to the course, a greenbelt or another home, since lot position affects privacy, views and future resale. For buyers who already own a home in Kingwood, Atascocita or elsewhere, we can plan whether to sell first, buy first or close both on the same timeline, so you are never stuck carrying two homes longer than necessary.

For homeowners, Oakhurst is a community where buyers often arrive with a specific wish list: a golf course lot, a home near the rec center, or a quiet cul-de-sac by the trails. If you are thinking about selling, we can show you what your Oakhurst home is worth and market the features that matter most to those buyers, from course views to trail access. Many of our Oakhurst conversations start with a family that needs to sell before buying, and we help coordinate both moves so the timing works. Whether you are moving up, downsizing into a single-story plan or relocating, we will build a plan around your goals and keep you informed at every step.
