About Porter Heights

Living in Porter Heights

Porter Heights is a census-designated place in Montgomery County along FM 1314, also known as Conroe Porter Road, which forms its northeastern edge. FM 1314 links Porter Heights to Porter, Conroe and the Grand Parkway, so residents get a semi-rural setting with a straightforward drive to shopping and work. The area first appeared as a CDP in the 1980 census, and the 2020 census counted 1,903 residents.

The Porter Heights subdivision itself has about 190 single-family homes according to HAR records. The median build year is around 1987, and the median lot is about an acre, so space is the headline here. Buyers who want room for a garden, a shop or a few outdoor projects tend to find it in Porter Heights. The former North Houston Airport, a small general aviation field within the CDP, was sold to a developer and closed in 2021. Buyers drawn to Porter Heights often value privacy, mature trees and freedom to use their land, along with the convenience of FM 1314 and the Grand Parkway nearby.

Schools take a careful look in this area. The Porter Heights CDP is split between New Caney ISD and Conroe ISD, and HAR lists the Porter Heights subdivision in New Caney ISD. New Caney ISD campuses serving the area include Crippen Elementary, White Oak Middle School and Porter High School. We confirm the district and campuses for every address.

The broader Porter area traces its roots to cattle ranching in the 1860s and to James Porter, an early resident who ran a sawmill. A post office opened in 1892 under the name Porters, and the name was shortened to Porter in 1953. Porter has been part of New Caney ISD since 1965, and the district treats all of ZIP code 77365 as Porter for attendance purposes.
