About West Houston
Living in West Houston
West Houston is less a single neighborhood than a large region of the city’s west side. The West Houston Association, a nonprofit formed in 1979, originally drew the area from Kirkwood Road west to the town of Katy and from Westheimer north to FM 529, and its service area has since grown well beyond that. It is home to a large share of the region’s residents and employers, and the listings below reflect a wide mix of subdivisions, home ages and styles.
The Energy Corridor along the Katy Freeway, between Kirkwood Road and Barker Cypress Road, is one of the area’s anchors and one of the region’s largest employment centers. Outdoor space is a real strength. Major energy firms including BP America, ConocoPhillips and Shell have large operations in the corridor, alongside more than 300 other companies. Terry Hershey Park follows Buffalo Bayou east to west, and George Bush Park lies within Barker Reservoir, with trails connecting the two. Depending on the address, public schools may be in Houston ISD, Katy ISD, Spring Branch ISD or another district, so we confirm the zoned district and campuses for every home.
Parts of West Houston sit near Buffalo Bayou and the Addicks and Barker reservoirs, so we review the flood zone, elevation information and seller disclosures for each home we show. If you own on the west side and are thinking of a move, Stacy can explain what your West Houston home is worth and help you plan your next purchase at the same time.
