West University Place is a small, independent city surrounded by Houston, just west of Rice University and the Texas Medical Center. It was developed in the 1910s and 1920s and is known for tree-lined streets, well-kept parks and a strong sense of community.

Many original cottages have been replaced by larger custom homes, so the neighborhood now offers mostly newer construction on traditional city lots. Residents walk to parks and the Rice Village shops, and the Medical Center, Greenway Plaza and downtown are close. West University Elementary in Houston ISD is a major draw for families.
