About Galleria
Living in Galleria
The Galleria area takes its name from the shopping center at its heart. The Galleria opened on Westheimer Road in 1970, developed by Gerald D. Hines, and it has grown into the largest mall in Texas, with more than 400 stores across four floors, anchors including Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Saks Fifth Avenue and Macy’s, and an indoor ice rink that was the first ever built inside a mall. Two Westin hotels are attached, and the center draws tens of millions of visitors a year.
Living here means being in the middle of Houston’s Uptown district, about six miles west of Downtown along Westheimer and Post Oak Boulevard. Residential choices range from high-rise and mid-rise towers, which the area has in unusual concentration, to established neighborhoods nearby such as Tanglewood, Briargrove, Westhaven Estates, Larchmont and Afton Oaks. For luxury buyers, that means a choice between full service tower living with skyline views and single-family homes on quiet streets a few minutes from the mall.
Shopping is only part of the draw. The Galleria’s Polar Ice rink, first built in 1970, still hosts skaters year round, and the surrounding blocks are filled with restaurants, hotels and offices, which means many residents can walk or take a short drive to dinner, work and errands. Buyers who travel often appreciate the easy access to the West Loop and US 59.
Green space is closer than many people expect. The Williams Tower Park and its 64 foot Waterwall fountain are now a public city park, and Hidalgo Park, just south of the Galleria, has hundreds of trees and shrubs and a lighted fountain. Public schools are in Houston ISD, and we verify zoned schools for each address before you commit.
If you own a condo or home near the Galleria, buyers will compare your property against a wide field of towers and nearby subdivisions. Stacy can show you what your Galleria area home is worth and how to stand out. Many of our Galleria clients are also buying or selling elsewhere in Houston, and we handle both sides together.
