About Sterling Ridge
Living in Sterling Ridge
Sterling Ridge sits on the western side of The Woodlands along FM 2978. The village opened in 1999, the year The Woodlands marked its 25th anniversary, and it remains one of the community’s newer villages. It holds more than 2,500 homes and some of the most sought after addresses in the area. Because it was planned later than the original villages, Sterling Ridge has a more recent feel, with many homes built from the late 1990s forward, and it has continued to add homes in recent years. FM 2978 gives residents a direct north and south route along the western edge of the community. The village was planned around wooded greenbelts and the community’s signature pathways, so many streets feel tucked into the trees even though shopping and services are close by.
For luxury buyers, Sterling Ridge is best known as home to The Club at Carlton Woods. Carlton Woods is a private community with 24 hour manned gates, and its first section in Sterling Ridge opened in 2000. The Jack Nicklaus Signature golf course followed in 2001, and custom estates sit on large lots with golf course or wooded views. The broader village also includes the Gary Player designed golf course and a wide range of homes outside the gates, from family homes to larger custom builds. Inside Carlton Woods, buyers find some of the most significant estates in the Houston area, and the club offers members golf, dining and social programs. The Club at Carlton Woods also has a second course, designed by Tom Fazio, in the gated Creekside section of Creekside Park. Membership is separate from home ownership, and we explain how it works before you buy.
Sterling Ridge has plenty of open space. Major parks include Artist Grove Park, Carlton Woods Park, Cranebrook Park and Terramont Park, along with more than a dozen smaller neighborhood parks connected by the pathway system. The Sterling Ridge Village Center, anchored by a Kroger Signature store, covers groceries and daily errands. Residents also share The Woodlands’ wider network of more than 150 parks, pools and pathways, so the outdoors are always close by.
Most of the village is served by Conroe ISD, while the May Valley neighborhood is zoned to Magnolia ISD. We confirm the district and campuses for every address. Homes near ponds and greenbelts get a review of the flood zone and disclosures before you make an offer. For families comparing villages, that district split is one of the most important details to understand, and we make sure you know exactly where a home falls before you fall in love with it.
